I created this blog to share my insights on Egyptian (among other Middle Eastern countries) politics, religion, and culture and how they particularly relate to Coptic Christians. My goals are to inform the public regarding current events in Egypt and the Middle East so as to raise awareness, and to shape the public’s thinking and stances towards these events (particularly Coptic American stances towards Egypt’s current events).

I was raised in an Egyptian American community, more specifically a Coptic church community. In college, I studied religion and government with a focus on the Middle East. During my senior year, I wrote a thesis on the effects of Egyptian politics on Coptic-Muslim relations, which was no doubt influenced by Egypt’s January 25th Revolution and the tumultuous months thereafter.

Keeping this background in mind, I’d like to lay bare all of my biases before my readers judge the quality of my analysis and opinions (which I invite them to do). As a Coptic Christian, I believe that what is good for Copts is what is good for all Egyptians, and vice versa. I am an ardent supporter of Egypt’s January 25th Revolution and of the other uprisings across the Middle East associated with the Arab Spring. I believe that despite the myriad problems post-revolutionary Egypt faces today on its path towards democracy, not the least of which is persecution of the Coptic community and the greater question of its place in Egyptian society and politics moving forward, the January 25th Revolution was a necessary and positive step towards the progress and development of Egypt and the fulfillment of the aspirations of its people, including the Coptic Christian minority.

With that being said, I hope all visitors to my blog are able to learn something about Egypt or the Middle East and take the time understand my views regarding it. Especially you, fellow Copts! I hope I do not disappoint!
